Job Description
The Nuclear Science and Engineering Division is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral appointee to join the Nuclear Applications and Economics group (https://www.anl.gov/nse/nuclear-applications-and-economics). This position seeks experience in several technical fields including but not limited to nuclear economics, energy market modeling and analysis, and advanced reactor design and modeling.
Responsibilities may include:
Perform economics analyses of nuclear reactors and facilities.
Performs energy market modeling and energy transition analyses.
Contribute to the design and analysis of advanced nuclear reactors such as SFRs, MSRs, HTGRs, and Micro-reactors and their associated fuel cycles.
Develop and apply computational strategies to improve the modeling & simulation of nuclear and energy market economics analyses.
Produce papers and reports describing results of development work, analyses, and investigations.
Position Requirements
This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in nuclear engineering, physics, or a related field at the PhD level with zero to five years of employment experience.
Experience in economics applied to energy market systems modeling.
Knowledge in costing analyses of nuclear facilities.
Knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices for the design and analysis of reactor systems.
Research experience in one or more specialized area of nuclear science and engineering.
Experience in computer programming and scripting.
Skill in the conception, design, and evaluation of innovative approaches and solutions to quantitative problems.
Skills in the use of computers and in the analysis of computational results, clear and effective documentation and communication of results, and interaction with co-workers and support personnel.
Experience with writing funding proposals for innovative ideas.
Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication.
